Ryan Tranquilla left Poets & Writers, Inc., the nation's largest nonprofit service organization for writers, at the beginning of 2005 after more than seven years, working most recently as director of the California Programs office. During his tenure he oversaw a matching grants program that paid thousands of writers to take part in public readings and writing workshops; initiated a series of regional meetings bringing together dozens of the most important literary representatives in the state; and wrote successful grants to the James Irvine Foundation, the William Randolph Hearst Foundation, the Marin Community Foundation, the National Endowment for the Arts, the California Arts Council, and other public and private funders.
Ryan received his B.A. from Middlebury College, holds a certificate in Arts Administration from Golden Gate University, and worked as bookstore manager and assistant director at the Cartoon Art Museum in San Francisco from 1995-1997. He serves on advisory committees for the California Center for the Book and the Isherwood Foundation. Ryan's poetry has appeared or is forthcoming in the Los Angeles Review and Spillway. He lives with his wife and daughter in Los Angeles.
